Solar Astronomy

Did you know that light from the Sun takes 8 minutes to reach Earth? Or that the sun, our nearest neighbor star, outweighs all of the planets in the solar system combined? Earth was formed from leftover bits of the sun 4.5 billion years ago, but even today the sun has dazzling surface features like sunspots and massive blazing-hot streams of gas that leap from the sun, called prominences.
